What matters beyond the company?

A reflection on the values that get pushed aside when work takes over.

As a tech founder, I became so focused on the company that I lost touch with parts of myself. I put spirituality aside, even though it mattered to me. I stopped having fun. I compromised values to keep other people happy.

Finding my way back involved writing down what I believed and questioning it.

Ask whose belief it is.

Is this something I believe, or something I have absorbed from someone else? Is it serving me now? Am I making this choice because it reflects what matters to me, or because I doubt my own abilities?

These questions did not require me to reject everything I had believed. They helped me become more deliberate about what I wanted to keep.

Look at where your energy goes.

Your time and attention are finite. Where are they going now? Where would you like them to go?

Think about what you say matters and what actually has room in your week. The gap can give you something concrete to explore.

Make room for one value.

Choose something you have been pushing aside. What would giving it space look like this week? What would need to change for that to happen?

For me, rebuilding morning rituals was one part of supporting the life I wanted. Your answer may be different. The point is to choose an action connected to your own values and notice what changes.

What matters to you that has not had enough room in your life lately?
